SUPPLY CHAIN SECURITY

Software Supply Chain Security

Your code is only as safe as
everything it depends on.

Most breaches now enter through dependencies, build pipelines, and leaked credentials — not your own code. We audit, harden, and continuously monitor your software supply chain so you ship with confidence.

Why this matters now

Modern attacks target the seams, not the center

Perimeter security is table stakes. Sophisticated adversaries now compromise CI pipelines, publish malicious packages under trusted names, or bake backdoors into build tooling. The result reaches every user of your product — often before your team notices anything is wrong.

STEP 01

Dependency confusion & typosquatting

Attackers register packages that shadow your internal namespaces, or register names one keystroke away from popular libraries. A routine npm install pulls malicious code into your build.

STEP 02

Compromised maintainer accounts

Legitimate packages get updated by attackers who've taken over a maintainer's credentials. The package name and publisher look exactly the same — only the payload differs.

STEP 03

Build pipeline injection

CI/CD systems with overly permissive access become the attack surface. A poisoned workflow file or stolen runner token lets an adversary modify artifacts before they're signed and shipped.

STEP 04

Secrets leakage at rest & in transit

API keys committed years ago, environment variables baked into Docker layers, or tokens stored in CI logs — any of these gives an attacker a foothold that most scanners miss.

STEP 05

Outdated or unvetted transitive dependencies

Your code may be clean. But three levels deep, a dependency of a dependency carries a known critical CVE — and your team has no visibility into it without systematic SBOM tracking.

What we do

End-to-end supply chain hardening

We treat the software supply chain as a first-class engineering concern — not a checkbox. Every engagement starts with an audit and ends with automated guardrails you own entirely.

We scan your entire dependency tree — direct and transitive — across npm, PyPI, Maven, Go modules, and RubyGems. Every CVE is triaged for actual reachability in your runtime context, so you fix what matters and don't drown in noise.

  • Full transitive dependency graph analysis
  • CVSS-scored report with exploitability context
  • Reachability analysis — not all CVEs are actually exploitable in your build
  • Upgrade path recommendations with breaking-change impact assessment
  • License compliance check (GPL, AGPL, SSPL conflicts)

A Software Bill of Materials is your manifest of truth — what's in your product, where it came from, and under what license. We generate CycloneDX and SPDX SBOMs, sign them with Sigstore, and integrate them into your release pipeline so they're always current.

  • CycloneDX & SPDX 2.3 SBOM generation at build time
  • Artifact signing and attestation via Sigstore / Cosign
  • Continuous SBOM diff on each release to flag new components
  • SBOM storage and query API for your security team
  • Executive-ready vulnerability summaries from SBOM data

We harden your CI/CD environment to SLSA Level 2–3: hermetic builds, provenance attestation, pinned action versions, and least-privilege runner tokens. Your artifacts are verifiably the product of your source — nothing injected in transit.

  • GitHub Actions / GitLab CI / CircleCI security review & hardening
  • SLSA provenance generation and attestation
  • Workflow file pinning and PR-gated secret access
  • Ephemeral, short-lived build credentials via OIDC
  • Artifact signing and transparency log submission (Rekor)

We scan your entire git history — every commit, every branch — for credentials, tokens, and private keys. Then we establish pre-commit hooks, CI gates, and secret scanning policies that prevent the leak from happening again.

  • Full git history scan including all branches and tags
  • Automated revocation checklists for discovered secrets
  • Pre-commit hooks (gitleaks, detect-secrets) integrated into developer workflow
  • CI-level blocking for any new secret-pattern commits
  • HashiCorp Vault / AWS Secrets Manager migration for hardcoded values

We audit your Docker images for unnecessary attack surface — extra packages, overprivileged layers, exposed secrets in history, and unsigned images in your registry. Then we rebuild them lean, signed, and continuously scanned.

  • Base image audit and migration to distroless / minimal images
  • CVE scanning integrated into registry push (Trivy, Grype)
  • Image signing and policy enforcement in Kubernetes (Kyverno, OPA)
  • Non-root user enforcement and capability drop
  • Layer-by-layer secret detection in existing images

A one-time audit expires the moment a new CVE drops or a maintainer is compromised. We set up automated, policy-driven monitoring so your security posture degrades gracefully and your team is alerted before the issue reaches production.

  • Continuous dependency monitoring with Slack / PagerDuty alerting
  • OPA / Rego policies to block non-compliant artifacts from deployment
  • Weekly SBOM diff reports with severity triage
  • Automated PR creation for dependency upgrades with test results
  • Monthly supply chain health report for engineering leadership

How an engagement works

From first scan to continuous guardrails

We move fast, stay specific, and leave you with systems — not just a PDF report.

WEEK 1

Discovery & full audit

We ingest your repos, CI configuration, container registry, and secrets manager (read-only). Our automated pipeline runs within hours; the manual review of findings takes the rest of the week. You receive a prioritized finding report by Friday.

WEEK 2

Critical fixes & quick wins

We remediate critical and high-severity findings immediately — secret rotation, dep upgrades, build permission tightening. Changes ship as PRs for your team to review and merge; nothing enters your codebase without your sign-off.

WEEKS 3–4

Hardening implementation

SBOM pipeline, image signing, SLSA provenance, pre-commit hooks, and CI policy gates. We build these into your existing toolchain — no new platforms to manage unless you want them.

ONGOING

Monitoring & retainer (optional)

We offer a monthly retainer for continuous monitoring, alert triage, and quarterly re-audits as your codebase evolves. Most clients find two engineers' worth of security work covered by a fraction of one hire.

All code changes, policies, and configurations are delivered as pull requests to your repositories. You own everything. We don't require any third-party platform access to persist beyond the engagement.
Tooling we work with

No vendor lock-in, ever

We integrate with your existing stack. If you're already using a tool, we build on it. If you're not, we recommend the right open-source option for your scale.

Why Hardened Soft

Security delivered by engineers, not auditors

Typical security scanner Big-4 security firm Hardened Soft
Finds real exploitable issues Partial — lots of noise ✓ ✓ Reachability-filtered
Fixes the issues, not just reports ✕ Rarely ✓ PRs, not PDFs
Integrates into your pipeline Partial ✕ ✓ Fully automated
Senior engineers, not consultants n/a Junior-heavy ✓ 90%+ senior
You own all tooling & config Vendor-locked ✕ ✓ 100% code ownership
Response time Automated only Days to weeks 1 business day

No false-positive fatigue

Every finding is manually triaged for actual exploitability in your runtime. We don't hand you a 400-item list and walk away.

Works inside your stack

We meet your team in GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. Everything is PRs, not proprietary dashboards your team won't use.

Full code ownership

Every policy, hook, and pipeline change lands as a PR in your repo. When the engagement ends, you run it — no ongoing platform dependency.

Common questions

Things clients ask before starting

Automated scanners catch a significant portion of CVEs but miss several critical attack vectors: build pipeline injection, secrets in git history, unverified artifact provenance, and transitive dependency confusion. We complement your existing tools, filling the gaps they're architecturally unable to cover. We've rarely audited a team using Snyk that didn't also have open secrets in their history or an overpermissioned CI runner.
Read-only access to your source repositories and CI configuration for the audit phase. For the implementation phase, we work via PRs — you grant write access only by merging what we propose. We never require production environment access, and all credentials used during the engagement are rotated at its end. We're happy to work within a time-limited access window with your security team's oversight.
The initial audit and critical remediation phase takes 2 weeks for most codebases. Full hardening — SBOM pipeline, image signing, SLSA provenance, CI policy gates — adds another 2 weeks. Larger monorepos or multi-language codebases may run 6–8 weeks. We provide a realistic timeline estimate in the first discovery call, scoped to your actual repositories.
Yes. SBOM generation, artifact signing, secrets management, and CI integrity controls map directly to controls in SOC 2 Type II (CC8.1, CC9.2), ISO 27001 (A.12.5, A.14.2), and NIST SP 800-204D. We don't provide compliance certification — but our deliverables give your auditors the evidence trail they need. We provide a compliance mapping document as part of every engagement.
That's our preferred model. We act as a specialist contractor alongside your internal team — handling the depth and breadth of supply chain hardening that most security teams don't have bandwidth for. We document everything for knowledge transfer and can run working sessions so your team understands every control we put in place.
